9 Essential Recipes for the High Holidays and Hannukah

The High Holy Days are less than a month away and then  Hannukah will be right around the corner. Here are some essential  recipes every Jewish home cook should have on hand:

-Chicken Soup:

Jewish penicillin (AKA Chicken Soup) is a staple for the High Holy Days in my family. Drag out the pressure cooker you got for your wedding or your fancy instant pot, your house will smell amazing and get everyone into the holiday spirit.

NOTE: I HIGHLY recommend making the stock a day ahead of time,  that way once it’s been in the fridge you can skim the fat off easier.  The fat rises to the top once cold. 

-Homemade Challah:

Talk about making your house smell DELCIOUS! Making challah can intimidate some, but once you get started and see how easy it is, you’ll never turn back!

-Roasted Chicken:

I like this recipe because as you roast the chicken the potatoes are cooking too, one less pan to clean later!

-Roasted Vegetables:

I know people think roasting vegetables is an art form but it’s really very simple. Gather your family’s favorite veggies and place them on a  sprayed sheet pan. (Try and cut the veggies around the same size, it  will ensure all the veggies cook at the same rate.) Drizzle with your favorite oil (I prefer avocado oil) and season liberally with salt and black pepper (if you’re feeling extra fancy you can add your favorite herbs like rosemary, thyme, or some garlic). Cook in a 350°F oven for  20-30 minutes.
